Coach Marcy’s Corner:

Coaching tip. Your pitchers might have good speed but it’s the pitches that change speed that make the most difference. It’s beyond me how a pitcher tells me that they only throw 1-10 change ups in a game. I’m watching Clemson play against Duke for the ACC Championship and the commentary is talking about how the change of speed is crucial. In every at bat I have seen at least one or more off speed pitches. I’m honestly not sure that a lot of HS coaches and travel coaches use these enough. If your pitcher is giving up numerous hits in a row they are either catching too much plate, pitches are not moving, or you are not using the off speed effectively!! I don’t care if your pitcher can throw 70mph...if that’s all she can do eventually she will get lit up like a Christmas Tree!!!
